Pet Tree of Remembrance
PALM HARBOR - The holiday season, while joyous for most people, may be difficult for those who have lost a furry loved one. Suncoast Primate Sanctuary will host a tree lighting ceremony in remembrance of those furry friends who have passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a weather-resistant ornament to hang on the tree in memory of their pet who died. Photos of the pet can also be hung on the tree. There will be a brief candlelite prayer service. SPS is located at 4600 Alt. 19 in Palm Harbor. The ceremony is free to attend, but donations will be gladly accepted. The sanctuary will not be open to tour that evening. The tree will remain lit throughout the holiday season in memory of all departed furry friends. On Jan. 3, the ornaments will be removed from the tree and then can be picked up during normal visiting hours, Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. SPS is not responsible for any ornaments remaining after 30 days. While dogs are normally welcome at the sanctuary, this ceremony is for humans only. Please leave all furry family members at home for this event. Anyone interested in giving the primates a merry Christmas, can visit the sanctuary and select a gift to donate off the Angel Tree. Each angel on the tree represents an item a primate would love to have. Gifts can be purchased off the SPS online wish lists, or dropped off at the Sanctuary and placed under the tree. Suncoast Primate Sanctuary is home to abandoned and abused primates from the entertainment industry, private pet ownership and labs. The primates live their lives out in peace at this non-contact facility. SPS is a 501c3 nonprofit run solely by volunteers. Donations are tax deductible.
