Palm Harbor 9/11 Memorial Event
A 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor Wednesday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. The event will include keynote speaker 9/11 survivor Patrick Anderson. EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: * Mark Wilson, Fox Channel 13 Anchor - Master of Ceremonies * Patrick Anderson, 9/11 Survivor – Keynote Speaker * Political Speakers – Florida Senator Ed Hooper & Florida House Representative Chris Sprowls * National Anthem - Sonya Bryson-Kirksey, Retired USAF – Tampa Bay Lightning Anthem Singer * 9-11 Art Display – Approximately 500 pieces of artwork from Curlew Creek Elementary, Ozona Elementary, Westlake Christian School and Kings Highway Elementary with the theme “What 9-11 Means to Me” * 9-11 Essay Contest Winner – Middle School student essay Contest Winner will read his/her winning essay written with the theme “How Did 9-11 Impact Our Nation” PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES: Honor Guards, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Flyover, U.S. Coast Guard Flyover, Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts and the Palm Harbor University High School After School Specials (acapella singing group) SATURDAY SEPT 7 - TUESDAY SEP 10 On these four nights two vertical beams of light similar to those in New York City will be shone from Curlew Hills Memory Gardens to honor those killed in the 9/11 attacks. These iconic twin beams of light will shine brightly from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. (visible for a 5-mile radius) and will serve a beacon of reflection and remembrance. The 9/11 Memorial at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens is a one-of-a-kind memorial. A 150-pound piece of rusted steel beam, which was once part of the World Trade Center Towers, is its focal point. The memorial is constructed with nearly 30 tons of American granite and features an eternal flame at its base. Guests attending the 9/11 ceremony are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating. The event will be held outside, so guests are also encouraged to bring sun protection. Water will be provided.
